pergola
cedar | unfinished
Built to frame a small pond and serve as a gateway to stone steps leading to the rose garden, the vision for this pergola was an amalgam of Arts & Crafts, traditional Japanese timber framing and Victorian architecture.
Vertical slats are let in to the three main rails, which run through mortises in the main posts. The top is a lattice of bridal joints, seated on two main rails that intersect the posts with lap joints. All of the horizontal rails are secured with handmade wooden pegs.
Each of the spherical finials was turned individually on a lathe.
